The Social Work Study Program celebrates World Social Work Day with Esie Henstein from Leipzig & Humboldt University zu Berlin.
On March 14, 2024, the Social Welfare Study Program (Kessos), Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences (FDIKOM), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held a national seminar (World Social Work Day) in Theater Room 2 FDIKOM. The World Social Work Day commemoration on March 19, 2024, was themed "Buen Vivir." Its meaning is "A Shared Future for Transformative Change." This theme emphasizes the importance of innovative community-based approaches in social work.
The "Buen Vivir" approach is assumed to encourage the formation of participatory mechanisms that enable communities to be involved in decision-making processes that affect their lives. Therefore, it is crucial to articulate participatory forums, consultation groups, or open communication channels between the government, civil society organizations, and the general public. These mechanisms provide opportunities for communities to express their views, provide input, and participate in formulating relevant policies and programs.
The seminar began with a speech by the Dean of FIDKOM, Gun Gun Heryanto. Gun Gun expressed appreciation for the initiative held by the Kessos Study Program. Furthermore, he discussed charity as a social movement carried out by social activists to address social issues within society. He encouraged academics to work together in implementing the three pillars of higher education (education, research, and community service) in community service through social service programs that will have an impact on society, rather than just being theoretical discourse.
In the main event, the National Seminar "International Charity Diaspora Indonesia," the first session was opened by moderator Nadya Kharima, a lecturer from the Kessos Study Program, and presenter Esie Henstein, a lecturer from Leipzig University & Humboldt University zu Berlin. Esie discussed the "Bright Smile" project with friends from Germany at several orphanages in Pontianak City. She also explained the charity activities, including providing nutritious food, dental and eye care, and even cooking together with the children at the orphanages. She also encouraged the children to reduce plastic usage, advocate for schooling, and access to healthcare for orphanage children. Esie strongly emphasizes equality, which is why she is involved in charity work and bravely assists children living in orphanages.
The second session was continued with Ridho Biwanda Samosir, a Social Worker from the DPP APP DKI Jakarta, as the speaker, moderated by Dimas Abimanyu, who is the Chairman of the HMPS Social Welfare for the 2024 period. Ridho discussed social work and the Social Welfare Department. Not only that, but he also shared many experiences with fellow Social Welfare students about what can be learned or focused on during their education. He explained that the Social Welfare Department is an applied science, meaning that the knowledge can be applied to various types of work. He also discussed the challenges that social workers will face, the realities that will occur, and many aspects of social work.[AZ]
