Reading the 2024 Election Landscape: Political Literacy Perspectives
Jakarta, Thursday, March 7th, 2024 — In order to understand and delve deeper into the 2024 Election process, the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences (FDIKOM) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, P2KM, and The Political Literacy Institute are organizing a book discussion and seminar entitled "Reading the 2024 Election Landscape: Political Literacy Perspectives." This event will address various important aspects related to political understanding and general elections, as well as explore their potential impacts on society.
The book "Reading the 2024 Election Landscape: Political Literacy Perspectives" is a collaborative work involving several experienced writers and academics in their respective fields. This book offers an in-depth analysis of the current political conditions, dynamics of general elections, as well as challenges and opportunities in political participation, especially in the digital era.
The event will take place on Friday, March 8th, 2024, at the Prof. Dr. Aqib Suminto Theater Room, FDIKOM UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta building. This seminar is part of a valuable discussion forum for academics, political practitioners, students, and the general public. Speakers at this event include Iding Rosyidin, who is a Political Science lecturer and also the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at UIN Jakarta. Alongside, there are Ana Sabhana Azmy, a lecturer at FISIP UPN, Fadli Ramdhanil, and Ike Kusuma, a senior journalist/Executive Producer at SindoTV MNC Group. They will share their views on the urgency of political literacy in the context of elections, as well as discuss strategies to enhance understanding and active political participation.
Gun Gun Heryanto, as the Dean of FDIKOM UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, stated, "Elections are not just about outcomes, but must be comprehensive. It involves discussions on electoral law regulation, electoral management, and the electoral process itself. Therefore, elections should ensure representation, competitiveness, and representativeness. If these principles are lost, then the quality of the elections should be questioned. Reading the landscape of the 2024 Election is crucial as a way to position the election process as a study. We need to promote political literacy as a basis for strengthening the critical awareness of citizens to better understand and position significant roles amidst the many paradoxes in the conduct of elections."
"The national seminar and book discussion are academic activities attended by experts in their fields. This is important for students, the general public, and the community to understand the landscape of the 2024 elections that we have just conducted. Furthermore, there will be elections for regional heads simultaneously in November 2024. The knowledge gained from this national seminar serves as cognitive input for the intellectual development of the academic community, especially for UIN Jakarta students," said Deden Mauli Drajat, as the Executive Director of the Center for Communication and Media Studies at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, emphasizing the urgency of this event, especially for students.
This activity is a concrete step in supporting inclusive and sustainable democracy development. Through high voter awareness and active participation in elections, it is hoped that students can become more effective agents of change in the development of a democratic and just nation. [FRH]
