The 2024 East Belitung Pilkada Public Debate, which was held on Saturday (26/10/2024) evening, became a stage for regent and deputy regent candidates to test their ideas and vision and mission in front of the people. 

The following is a special interview from Pos Belitung journalist, Bryan Bimantoro with the 2024 East Belitung Pilkada Debate Panelist who is also the 2024 Presidential Election debate panelist and Dean of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Gun Gun Heryanto, Saturday (26/10/2024):

Q: How do you think the debate went tonight?

A: The essence of the debate is not just conveying a written vision and mission, but also testing the ability to defend arguments based on data and its relevance to the realities faced by society. 

In principle, the debate is to confirm and examine the candidates' programs. This is important so that the public gets in-depth references in the voting process. Tonight's debate has many pluses and minuses.

Q: What about the answers of the two candidate pairs? Did it meet the panelists' expectations?

A: In the debate that took place last night there were various positive and negative aspects of the answers of the two candidate pairs. Some answers are still on the surface and need to be deepened. We, as question makers, actually understand that there are many answers that candidates need to dig deeper into. However, this is natural, because each candidate has varying privacy management (CPM) considerations and communications.

A level of self-confidence and maturity in debate is needed to bridge the vision and mission with the real needs of society. Healthy competition is important in this debate.
