The Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences (FDIKOM) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta will host the Annual International Conference on Islam, Media, and Digital Society (AICIMIDS) 2026 from Wednesday to Friday, August 12–14, 2026, at the Millennium Sirih Hotel, Central Jakarta. This annual international conference is themed "Media, the Contemporary Muslim World, and Digital Networked Society: Authority, Identity, and Social Transformation," and is held as part of the 6th National Conference on Islamic Communication (KNKI VI), organized by the Association of Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Programs (ASKOPIS).

AICIMIDS was conceived as an annual academic forum bringing together historians, researchers, media practitioners, students, policymakers, and members of the international community to discuss strategic issues surrounding Islam, media, and digital society. The evolution of digital media is considered to have brought about significant changes in the lives of contemporary Muslims—affecting not only communication patterns but also religious authority, social identity, political behavior, the creative economy, and the very ways in which Islamic knowledge is produced and disseminated.

The conference is envisioned as an enduring academic legacy for FDIKOM UIN Jakarta and a sustainable annual international forum. Selected papers meeting Scopus and Sinta criteria will be published in partner journals.

"Through the themes of authority, identity, and social transformation, we aim for AICIMIDS 2026 to serve as a cross-national space for the exchange of ideas—formulating new perspectives on the relationship between Islam, media, and digital networked society—while simultaneously encouraging internationally reputable scholarly publications from our young researchers," explained the Dean of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Gun Gun Heriyanto, M.Si.

According to the Dean, from an academic perspective, AICIMIDS represents one of FDIKOM's initiatives to continuously enhance the quality of research and scholarly publications among the academic community, while simultaneously strengthening UIN Jakarta's position as a distinguished and professional Islamic religious higher education institution.

"Through the workshops on education quality standardization and writing for internationally reputable journals that accompany this conference, we hope that lecturers and students will become increasingly adept at producing scholarly work capable of competing on the global stage, without losing their grounding in Islamic scholarship," explained the UIN Jakarta Professor of Political Communication.

Keynote Speakers and Resource Persons

The conference will open with a keynote speech (to be confirmed) by the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Hj. Meutya Viada Hafid, B.Eng., M.IP, accompanied by opening remarks from the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., and an opening address by the Dean of FDIKOM. AICIMIDS 2026 will also feature speakers from both Indonesia and abroad, including:

Program Agenda

In addition to conference sessions and paper presentations, AICIMIDS 2026 will feature a series of supporting events. These include a workshop on institutional and academic strengthening and the standardization of quality policies for Islamic religious higher education—aiming for excellence and professionalism—as well as a national workshop on writing for internationally reputable scholarly journals, conducted in collaboration with editors and reviewers from Scopus-indexed journals. The agenda for the 6th ASKOPIS-KNKI event includes:

1. Inauguration of ASKOPIS Regional Chapters (DPD)
2. Signing of MoUs between the ASKOPIS Central Board (DPP) and KPI (Islamic Broadcasting and Communication) study programs and journals
3. Gathering of KPI study program administrators (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels) from across Indonesia
4. Gathering of KPI journal managers from across Indonesia
5. Welcome Dinner with the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Governor of DKI Jakarta
6. KNKI Fun Walk and City Tour

Scope of Paper Themes

The committee invites researchers, academics, and students to submit abstracts and papers covering eight sub-themes: (A) Islamic Transformation and Digital Media; (B) Media, Politics, and Democracy in the Muslim World; (C) Muslim Identity in the Global Digital Sphere; (D) Religious Authority and Islamic Knowledge in the Digital Era; (E) Ethics, Media, and Islamic Values ​​in Digital Communication; (F) Digital Economy and the Muslim Creative Industry; (G) Islamic Education and Digital Literacy; and (H) Culture, Art, and Islamic Expression in New Media.
